Ticket purchase for event

I am paying a cost of a ticket to a function being hosted by the military. Do I need a tax id number? The cost is about $40.00. Is it necessary?

There are several things you will need to look at - that said the short answer is no. One, being the threshold. Two, by "military" I assume you mean a governmental entity, in this case part of the federal government.
