The IRS Only Answered 31% of The Tax Support Calls It Received in The 2024 Tax Season
Today (June 26, 2024), the National Taxpayer Advocate (Erin Collins) issued her mid-year report to Congress on the IRS' performance in key metrics like tax support. Unfortunately, there was not much good news.
Perhaps the most glaring issue revealed continues to be the lack of acceptable tax support. In fact, and according to the report, only 31% of the calls received by the IRS were even answered during the 2024 filing season that wrapped up a few months ago. This is terrible. It means that if your organization is struggling with a 1099 or other information reporting related issue, that you cannot count on the IRS being there to guide you in the right direction. Moreover, for those whose calls were answered the IRS has failed to provide metrics on whether or not those same callers were even able to get the answers they needed to their 1099 filing questions. This means that for most of you there is likely a greater than 80% chance you can't count on the IRS being able to answer your questions during filing season.
In the face of such tepid support we continue to stand ready to help Accounts Payable, Tax, independent CPA's, and other tax professionals get timely answers to your Form 1099, 1042-S, and State level reporting questions.
